Recognized FEI Disciplines Promoted by the EAP

JUMPING

Jumping is the best known – and probably most readily understood – of all the FEI disciplines and is one of the three Olympic equestrian sports, along with Dressage and Eventing. As in all equestrian disciplines, men and women compete on equal terms in Jumping in both individual and team events.

Jumping is a spectacular mix of courage, control and technical ability that takes horse and rider over 10 to 13 “knockable” obstacles, some of which may be double or treble combinations, with penalties incurred for each obstacle knocked down or refused. Jumping has also produced some of equestrian sport’s most memorable Olympic moments.

DRESSAGE

Dressage, the highest expression of horse training, is considered the most artistic of the equestrian sports and can be traced as far back as ancient Greece. The horse has to perform at a walk, trot and canter, and all tests are ridden from memory and follow a prescribed pattern of movements. The only exception is the Freestyle which is specially choreographed for each horse and is performed to music.

The popularity of Dressage has increased rapidly in recent years and the sport now regularly attracts huge crowds. Dressage is undoubtedly the most aesthetically pleasing of the disciplines in the FEI stable and the pure magic of top-class Freestyle under floodlights, as sport and art combine, guarantees that the popularity of Dressage will continue to grow. Furthermore, Para-Equestrian Dressage is the only equestrian discipline that is included in the Paralympic Games, where it has been a regular fixture since 1996.

ENDURANCE

Endurance is a long-distance equestrian discipline that tests the stamina, fitness and partnership between horse and rider. Competitions are held over set courses and distances, with the welfare of the horse always remaining the top priority.

Riders must carefully manage their horse’s pace, condition and recovery throughout the event. Veterinary checks are carried out during and after the ride to ensure the horse is fit to continue, making Endurance a true test of preparation, horsemanship and teamwork.

OTHER DISCIPLINES

EVENTING

As one of the Olympic equestrian disciplines, Eventing combines Dressage, Cross-Country, and Showjumping into a comprehensive test of versatility and endurance. The EAP supports Eventing by ensuring compliance with FEI safety standards, course design requirements, and horse welfare regulations.

DRIVING

The Equestrian Association of the Philippines supports the development of Driving in accordance with FEI regulations, promoting safe and structured carriage competitions that test precision, control, and teamwork between horse and driver. EAP works to ensure proper training, course standards, and officiating in all recognized events.

VAULTING

Vaulting blends gymnastics and equestrian sport, requiring balance, strength, and harmony with the horse. EAP supports the growth of Vaulting by promoting structured training programs, certified coaching standards, and safe competition environments.

PARA-DRESSAGE

The Equestrian Association of the Philippines recognizes Para-Dressage as the only equestrian discipline included in the Paralympic Games. EAP is committed to supporting inclusive participation by promoting accessible training opportunities, proper classification, and adherence to FEI Para-Equestrian regulations.
